Are you really a Christian?
It’s just a blunt question.
People answer this question in many ways. Yes, No, Didn’t you see my name, that
itself should tell you…Yes, I was born in a Christian family….Yes, I go to
church…..Some of these responses do not mean much. I for one was a nominal
Christian up to age 18. Once while waiting to board a train, I was confronted
by an evangelist who asked me the question-Are you a Christian? I promptly
showed him the cross at the end of a chain around my neck. Well; that was what
being “Christian” meant to me at that time. That was around 25 years ago.
Being a Christian means to
have an intimate relationship with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It’s not
enough to have a head knowledge of Christ; a heart knowledge and acceptance of
Christ and His Word is essential and vital to being a Christian. In the Gospel
of John Chapter 3, we read of an influential Pharisee who comes to Jesus and
says "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one
could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with
him."(John 3:2)
He meant to praise Jesus and
get on His good side. And that’s what many people try to do. Try to get on
God’s good side.
But Jesus told him bluntly,
“, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the

If you are still a nominal
Christian (just for name sake) and want to change that status of yours to having
a personal relationship with Christ, do pray this prayer.
Dear Father In Heaven,
I confess that I have been
living my life without knowing you personally. I want to have a personal
relationship with you through your son Jesus. I confess that I am a sinner and
I know that I will perish in my sins if I do not accept Jesus as my Savior and
Lord. Forgive me all my sins and unrighteousness and wash me with the blood of
Jesus and make me a new person this day. I believe in my heart and confess with
my mouth that Jesus is your son and He died on the cross at
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
