For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling

For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord. (Psalm 27:5, 6)

The psalmist David here is confident of how well his God can protect him. Are we also confident of the same? King Saul tried to kill David 21 times but did not succeed. Some would say that “David lived a charmed life.” “Very lucky” others would say. But the truth is that David had tremendous trust in the Lord. In many of his psalms, he speaks of his trust in the Lord. “I put my trust in you O Lord, let me not be ashamed.”…so on and so forth.

Faith and trust are different, if taken in a Biblical sense. What I mean is, often David was exasperated at the attacks from Saul and once said, “One day I’ll die at the hands of Saul.” A statement totally devoid of any faith.

When David looked at his own circumstances, he felt his faith weakening, but when he looked at the might of God, he realized that, even though his faith weakened, he could still trust in the Lord’s faithfulness. And when he trusted, his faith grew stronger.

In these verses we see David’s trust in the Lord. He says, “In the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.” Not only keep him safe and hide him, but also setting him high upon a rock; by which he means, keeping him in a place where the enemy cannot touch him.

And any person who truly realizes the great protection that the Lord grants us from the devil and his cohorts will join with David and say,

“…at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.”

Are we worshiping him with shouts of joy, singing and making music to Him? We should be! That is if we truly recognize the wondrous acts of the Lord in our life and the lives of our family members. How can one keep quiet? It’s impossible!
