The LORD is
my rock, my fortress and my deliverer
The
LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in which I
take refuge. He is my shield and the
horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Psalm 18:2)
It’s very
evident in this verse that the Psalmist has spent enough time to think about
the varied qualities of his God. I don’t think that he just blurted out the
above characteristics of God in a song all at once, but he seems to have
pondered what all the Lord has been in his life and then he was prompted to
sing about it.
It’s a fact in
our times that we Christians find only a little time to spend with the Lord. We
are all so busy with so many big and little matters that we are often not able
to sit and fellowship with the Lord.
If tithing is
a biblical principle and if we are following it, we ought to give a tenth of
our daily time also to the Lord. 1/10 of 24 hours i.e. 144 minutes or 2 hours
and 24 minutes if my maths is correct.
Just for
checking sake, do a quick check of your time spent for the Lord. Well, well, I
hope it’s not too bad.
And God in all
His mercy knowing our time shortages, put 150 wonderful psalms in His Word so
that we can read them without taxing our brains by thinking of how great our
God is.
Yet it will be
quite worthwhile if we could spend a little more time on thinking how great our
God is. For the psalmist, God is a rock, a fortress, a shield, the horn of his
salvation and his stronghold.
Protection,
protection….is what the Psalmist is speaking of here. Wherever you be, whether
at home, or at work or traveling, remember the Lord is always with you. He will
never leave you nor forsake you.
He is your
rock of refuge, you and your family are hid in Him because He is your fortress,
He is the shield that walks before you and behind you and He is the one who
lets you sing songs of joy because He is the Horn of your salvation.
To get through
to you, the enemy has to confront Jesus first, who is Your Rock, Your Fortress,
Your Shield & Your Stronghold. So be assured this day that you are safe,
safe in the arms of the Almighty Lord. Just believe.
